The Carnivore Diet and Canned Tuna
Alright, so I'm going to tell you about one of my latest adventures on this wild ride called the carnivore diet. You know, the one where you only eat meat and animal products? Yeah, that one.
Now, I'm sure you've had those days when you're just craving something different, right? Well, I had one of those days recently. I was staring into my fridge, past the beef steaks and chicken thighs, and I was just craving something...fishy.
So, I got to thinking, "Can I eat fish on a carnivore diet?" Specifically, I was thinking about canned tuna. I mean, it's meat, right? And it comes in a can, so it's super convenient for those days when I just don't feel like firing up the grill or doing a lot of prep work. But was it carnivore-friendly?
Well, I did a bit of digging (and by digging, I mean I looked it up on the internet), and guess what? Canned tuna is carnivore-friendly!
But wait a minute, before you dash off to your nearest grocery store to stock up on canned tuna, there's a catch (pun intended). Not all canned tuna is created equal. You gotta choose the right kind, and you gotta be careful with how much you consume.
First off, you want to choose canned tuna that's packed in water and free from added sugars or artificial ingredients. That means no tuna packed in oil or broth, which may contain unwanted additives. And try to choose sustainably sourced tuna to avoid any potential environmental concerns.
Plus, the FDA recommends limiting consumption to no more than two to three servings per week due to potential mercury contamination. Remember, everything is in moderation, my friends!
Now, the benefits of canned tuna on a carnivore diet are pretty sweet. It's an excellent source of protein and healthy omega-3 fatty acids, and it's low in carbohydrates and calories. Perfect for those of us watching our weight.
And you know what else is great about canned tuna? It's super convenient. You can eat it straight out of the can, or mix it with carnivore mayo to make a quick and tasty tuna salad. Talk about a win-win!
But, as much as I love canned tuna, I know it's important to mix things up a bit. Variety is the spice of life, after all. So, aside from canned tuna, I also enjoy beef, chicken, pork, lamb, organ meats, fish and seafood, and eggs. Remember to choose high-quality, sustainably sourced meats and seafood whenever possible.
So, there you have it, folks. Canned tuna: the unexpected hero of the carnivore diet. Next time you're craving something different, give it a try. Just remember to choose the right kind and consume it in moderation.
